Shopify Store Setup Guide (Complete)

Last updated: September 6, 20266 min readBeginnerBrand

This guide covers the full Arqam360 setup for Shopify, start to finish. Four of the five steps are automatic. The fifth is not, and it is the one that decides whether anything appears on your storefront — so it comes first here rather than last.

Installing the app is not enough on Shopify. The widget is delivered as a Theme App Extension, which Shopify keeps switched OFF until you enable it in your theme. Until you do, your dashboard will look perfectly configured and your storefront will show nothing — or Shopify's own default banner, which does not fire Consent Mode signals or keep a consent record. This is the single most common support ticket we get. Enable it at Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds → toggle Arqam360 ON, then Save.
1

Install from the Shopify App Store

Search for Arqam360 at apps.shopify.com or install directly from apps.shopify.com/arqam360. Installation is free and the banner stays free forever on one domain.

2

Approve the permission scopes

Shopify shows what the app is asking for: read_themes to detect your theme for styling, write_script_tags to place the banner, read_customers so data-subject requests work if you upgrade later. Approve, and your Arqam360 account is provisioned automatically using your store email — no separate signup.

3

Enable the App Embed block — the step people miss

In Shopify admin go to Online Store → Themes → Customize. Open App embeds in the left panel, find Arqam360, toggle it ON, and click Save. Nothing reaches your storefront until this is done. If you change themes later, do it again: App embed settings do not carry across themes.

4

Customize the banner

Open Arqam360 from your Shopify admin sidebar and go to the Widget tab. Set position, colours, and the Arabic and English text. Changes are live immediately — no theme publish, no cache clear.

5

Verify consent is recording

Open your storefront in a private window, make a choice on the banner, then check Consent Logs in the dashboard. The record appears within seconds. If the banner never appeared, go back to step 3.

Verify it is actually live

The dashboard tells you this without guesswork. On the Overview tab, the widget step reads as installed only after your storefront has genuinely requested its configuration at least once — it is a signal from your live site, not a setting you toggled. If the step is still incomplete an hour after enabling the App Embed, the block is either off, or on a theme that is not your published one.

If the banner still is not showing

Two causes account for almost all of it. First, the App Embed is off, or enabled on a theme you are not currently publishing — check the theme marked Current. Second, someone pasted an API key into the block's settings by hand; do not. The app supplies the key itself, and a stale pasted key produces a banner that loads and then serves defaults, which looks like a styling bug rather than an auth failure. You can confirm what your storefront is actually loading by viewing source and searching for data-key.

Consent Mode v2 and Shopify's Customer Privacy API

Shopify has its own consent surface, the Customer Privacy API, which its native analytics reads from. Google's tags read from gtag instead. Both need to be told, and Arqam360 calls both on every visitor choice. If your consent tool only calls one, you get a silent gap: either Shopify's analytics ignores consent, or Google's tags do.

Arabic and RTL

The banner detects the visitor's language and renders right-to-left in Arabic automatically, with the layout mirrored rather than merely translated. Saudi and Gulf visitors get Arabic and the PDPL-appropriate consent model without you configuring anything; you can override the language per domain from the Widget tab if you would rather pin it.
