Tamara Cookies and PDPL Consent

What Tamara sets
Tamara's widget writes cookies on the merchant's own origin covering the shopper's session and the checkout funnel, so Tamara can connect an approval back to the page that promoted it. Because they are set on your domain they appear first-party, and a scanner that classifies by domain rather than by pattern will wave them through.
Why it is classified as marketing, not necessary
Essential means the visitor cannot get what they asked for without it. Someone reading a product page has not asked for instalments, so cookies that exist to measure whether they later take them are advertising and analytics infrastructure, not checkout infrastructure. It changes once they actively select Tamara as a payment method — from that point the session cookie is completing a transaction they chose.
What PDPL requires
Consent before processing, and PDPL does not care that the cookie is first-party. If the widget script runs on page load, Tamara receives visitor data before anyone agreed, which is the pattern SDAIA has been penalising. Gate the widget on the marketing category, or render the instalment price server-side and load the interactive widget only on click.
How Arqam360 handles it
Detected by pattern, classified as marketing, and blocked until consent when enforcement is on. The declaration names Tamara in Arabic and English, which is the difference between a declaration a Saudi regulator finds credible and one that reads as a copied EU template.
