Who enforces Egypt's data protection law?

The Personal Data Protection Center (PDPC), a public authority under the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. It issues licences and permits, sets standards, receives complaints and inspects. Fines are for the Economic Courts, because violations of Law No. 151 of 2020 are criminal offences.

Controllers and processors need a PDPC licence or a permit. Up to 100,000 records the licence fee is zero, but the licence itself is still required.

The Executive Regulations also give the PDPC the power to approve the mechanisms businesses use to obtain consent.
