Who enforces Oman's Personal Data Protection Law?
The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, acting without prejudice to the powers of the Cyber Defence Centre. Oman has no separate data protection authority. The Ministry can issue warnings, suspend or cancel a permit and impose administrative fines, while the larger fines in the law are imposed by the courts.
The Ministry also receives breach reports, within 72 hours where a breach risks people's rights, and issues the permits needed to process sensitive data such as health, genetic or biometric data.
